Description

How it behaves

  • These chokes are often placed on the DC link of converter/inverter or boost PFC circuits in order to prevent voltage spikes on the DC bus. The inductor will not allow large voltage fluctuations, because it limits the current rise.

What do AC Power Chokes aim to solve

  • Low-pass filter → attenuates high frequencies on top of a DC output

+ Reducing current ripple → DC link choke reduce harmonics and limit peak current

+ Helps absorb voltage spikes on DC bus

Voltage (RMS/peak) 800V / 900V
Current (RMS/peak) 50A / 100A
Min. current ripple * 2A
Max. power ** 20kW
DC resistance (Rdc) ~20mΩ
Inductance < 1 mH
Q factor *** < 10
Frequency < 60Hz

* Higher frequency → lower current ripple
** Power range can be extended when necessary
*** Depends on working frequency range

  • DC bus/link inverters ripple suppression
  • Boost PFC DC links
  • LC filter DC link
  • Pi filters at DC output
  • Variable frequency drives
