What’s an DC inductor
An inductor is usually a coil of wire. When DC flows through the coil, it creates a magnetic field around it. The inductor resists changes in current, meaning it does not like the current to increase or decrease suddenly.
How it behaves with DC
- When DC is first applied, the inductor opposes the sudden increase in current.
- After a short time (steady state), the current becomes constant.
- At steady DC, an ideal inductor behaves almost like a short circuit (very low resistance), apart from the resistance of the wire itself.
