- Lower inrush and RMS current
- Prevents voltage spikes reaching power systems
Description
How it behaves
- AC lines between 50 - 400Hz often suffer from higher harmonics introduced by switch-mode power supplies. In order to filter these higher harmonics from the mains AC line, 50 - 400Hz line chokes (also called mains chokes) can be used to attenuate higher frequency noise.
What do AC Power Chokes aim to solve
- Lower inrush and RMS current
- Prevents voltage spikes reaching power systems
| Voltage (RMS/peak) | 800V / 900V |
| Current (RMS/peak) | 50A / 100A |
| Min. current ripple * | 2A |
| Max. power ** | 20kW |
| DC resistance (Rdc) | ~20mΩ |
| Inductance | < 1 mH |
| Q factor at operating frequency*** | ~ 1 |
| Frequency | 50Hz - 400Hz |
* Higher frequency → lower current ripple
** Power range can be extended when necessary
*** Very wide frequency band low Q factor
- AC input/output filtering PFC circuits
- Line reactors in three-phase systems
- Reducing harmonic distortion of VFDs
- Surge protection
- Compensating for low inductance motors
